  I want to draw particular attention to 53:00 and onwards, where the hosts (Li Yuan and Jianying Zha) skewer this argument I hear often from western AI boosters: "The Chinese know that AI is the future. If we regulate AI development here, China will just develop the technology anyways, they'll far surpass us in AI capability, and they'll advance into the glorious future while we're left behind" (translations below are my own, but the youtube english captions are good too) Li Yuan (53:32): Another thing that the China admirers are saying is "look how much the Chinese are embracing AI, while us Americans have so many skeptics and doubters of AI! This means that Americans will have slower development in AI!" (laugh) Jianying Zha: Let me tell you, just from this argument they're making, I can tell that they're either focused too much on quick results, or they're just shallow. They don't have the humanist aspect at all. Silicon Valley has a lot of geniuses, but I feel they lack a certain dimension. They all think they're masters of the universe, that they know everything, but actually they have a huge deficiency when it comes to understanding humanity. They think that technology will just keep advancing towards a blue horizon. Li Yuan: So actually, they have a lot of things in common with the CCP. Jianying Zha: Yes.
