Welp, had an engineering right of passage tonight. I’ve been using a multimeter for well over 4 decades now, never once have I blown a fuse in one. Until tonight. Wired it inline via the “fused 400mA” path with a 12v power supply, put it in Amperage mode. Proceeded to walk through the process of using the device under test… got the 23mA idle measurement, the 37mA armed measurement… then triggered it to pull the full 15A the supply was capable of. Oops. (Surprise, it was actually a 500mA fuse!)

The absolute best part was I thought I had fried the brand new power supply. Because the device under test went dark, so I differed I had triggered the over current protections. Reset all the things, still dark. Too the meter out if the supply loop to measure things and it came back, but even with lights on I had no voltage? It wasn’t until I put it in continuity mode to check something in debugging no voltage that I finally figured out what I had done.
