@apocraphilia@hachyderm.io @aurynn@cloudisland.nz : They are close to the surface! One of the things I appreciate about the game is that it provides the player information on all the mechanics, upgrades, difficulties, and so on. It carries itself on gameplay, and knowledge of mechanics lets the player strategise more, and the game is built for that, especially on harder difficulties¹. In this sense, it's comparable to X-COM (2012). The player has perfect information on mechanics, hit chances, and unit states, but that only enhances the strategy layer. Of course how one finds a game is very much a personal experience, and I did the thing where I kept upping the difficulty until it felt like a job and stopped playing², but Against the Storm is very up-front with what it offers, and I feel is *very* well tuned around that. — ¹ There's a whole gauntlet of prestige difficulties for those who really want them: https://wiki.hoodedhorse.com/Against_the_Storm/Difficulty#Prestige_Difficulties ² I do this with almost every game.
