Grrr. Antisemitism Envoy and Advance donor Jillian Segal is trying to gaslight the Royal Commission by accusing the ABC and SBS of bias against Israel. Her example was the ABC quoting a UN spokesman who said 40,000 children had been killed in Gaza. Turned out this figure was wrong and the ABC corrected it. The generally agreed figure is ‘only’ 20,000 children killed. 20,000. But as Israel keeps journalists out of Gaza while regularly killing those in the strip, hard numbers are hard to come by. As for ABC bias, I have endured hours of false balance as they broadcast straight-up Israeli propaganda via their spokespeople. Segal’s problem is that they also broadcast non-Israeli information assessed by the ABC Ombudsman as unbiased. She wants an ‘independent body’ to assess complaints (one that can be stacked by governments), and the adoption of her questionable definition of antisemitism. Meanwhile Murdoch’s extreme pro-Israeli bias is apparently just fine. #auspol #Israel #genocide
