when you stumble across an image and marvel at how it was ever unknown to you - and at how immediately it becomes part of a personal iconography, tying you once again to the collective, in a way that only ancient things seem able to do.
so much of our humanity is in these artefacts - a sense that the hands that shaped them are ours.
