I have no doubt that if one puts in the effort they can sort the wheat from the chaff...
But for casual users, soliciting money on a tool like mastodon is a free lunch ticket for scammers who game systems. I appreciate people want to help Gazans, but more harmful for the cause are the professional scammers who pretend to be Gazans and divert much needed money.
Mastodon isn't designed for this, IMHO fundraising needs to be reputation based with banking integration.

@TrimTab@mastodon.social @kathimmel@mstdn.social In my opinion, if the residents of Gaza had waited for all these procedures, they might have died of starvation or genocide without anyone actually receiving a donation. There are individuals here known for their good reputation and professionalism, such as @aral@mastodon.ar.al Rest assured that these accounts belong to Gaza residents and originate from Gaza-based IP addresses as well.
