@coolcalmcollected@mastodon.social @aesthr@wandering.shop I believe that this feature predated the change in Excel 4 or 5 that made the things you open workbooks containing multiple sheets. Prior to that, each file and each window was exactly one sheet. After that, it was a workbook with a row of tabs at the bottom, one per sheet. In the old model, if you wanted two sheets you needed two files open. Then you needed some way of referring between them. And then you have 30 years of backwards compatibility.
