Since the EU has made Chat Control 1.0 a thing, I should remind everyone that even having a plaintext mode at all is gross negligence for an E2EE system https://www.patrick-breyer.de/en/eu-parliament-greenlights-chat-control-1-0-breyer-our-children-lose-out/

  • @soatok@furry.engineer I love (jk) the fact that it was still adopted with 314 against, 276 in favor. How a majority like that is not clear enough? Democracy my a** :c

  • @soatok@furry.engineer shit, i missed that. What a beautiful democracy where you only need to spend enough money to ask enough time to finally get the result you want

@soatok@furry.engineer we don't live in a democracy anymore.

  • @soatok@furry.engineer To clarify, it had been a thing since 2021. This is "just" a two years extension of a stopgap. Still very problematic of course, but there will be more opportunities to strike it down, including by ensuring that the permanent legislation that replaces it does not allow this sort of mass-scanning. This is still a shameful moment for the EU and a gross violation of the democratic process and that IMO is much more worrisome right now.
