⚠️ Google is making installing an app from the internet harder on Android. Official reason: "security." Real reason? Lock-in. 🔒 New requirements extend Google's gatekeeping from the Play Store to every alternative distribution channel. This isn't about convenience. It's about who decides what runs on a device you own. 💡 The good news: So-called “sideloading” on Murena smartphones and any other devices running /e/OS remains possible. 👉 https://keepandroidopen.org #KeepAndroidOpen

@e_mydata@mastodon.social I'm sorry to disagree, but with the #Google Play Integrity Check, the US corporation has unfortunately found an effective way to render sideloading ineffective. The check takes place in the communication between the app and the server and therefore cannot be circumvented. I will take legal action against #Volkswagen for violating the #DSA (Data Protection Agreement). But doing that for every single app will be annoying.
