We have observed electron neutrinos oscillating into mu and tau neutrinos. But could we ever observe electrons themselves oscillating into muons or tauons? The short answer is “probably not”, for reasons mostly to do with the much greater mass differences between the charged leptons compared to those of the neutrinos. But it’s worth reading this paper in full, as it gives a clear, detailed exposition of the creation, propagation and detection of the relevant states.
