It is worthy of note that I'm significantly happier without that religion. This excerpt is a good example of how restrictive the religion is. In context (which is omitted in the excerpt) it's about not making booze. But the abundance of caution combined with general lack of general education among the ulema results in explanations of "this is vaguely bad for you" but the reason it's forbidden is actually because grapes have yeast on them and mixing these two makes khamr instead of nabidh. Anyways, there are thousands of nonsensical "because someone with a funny hat said so" fiqh like this. Rules about how to keep the jinns from falling in love with you while you bathe, or how to avoid angering them, or other absolute bullshit about the extreme danger of letting your pants cover your ankles because of it being a symbol of extreme arrogance and hypocrisy.
