@minad@mastodon.world it's a shame that this has escalated this way. I personally like the idea of separating melpa and elpa packages, but when all of the maintainers say they're not interested it's time to let it go. Especially when, as you pointed out, if you really want to blacklist elpa packages relying on melpa it is trivial to do so. Thank you for your contributions!

I don't think the issue is that any of the gnu elpa packages depend on "melpa", I don't think they do, just that some gnu elpa packages (which are part of GNU Emacs (not the standard distribution)) depend on packages from nongnu elpa (which are also free software but not part of GNU Emacs.).
