The thing is that America is a soccer country by normal sports standards. Lots of people play it, it's like the 4th-most popular sport to play. It's just that soccer is too inherently unintuitive to pick up and be elite at if you haven't been playing at a very young age. The powerhouse countries don't play it in fall, then basketball, then baseball, it's a monoculture. Looking at it objectively, the traditional American model of seasonal sports is objectively healthier and better at developing kids as human beings instead of burning them out trying to win the lottery. Unfortunately this model has been fading in favor of travel league moneypits, but that doesn't change the reality that soccer monoculture is peasant shit compared to traditional American sports culture.
