@ericjames@booping.synth.download as a Christian (kinda) myself I've been thinking about just this issue: the core deadly feature of "deals with the devil" in Christian mythology is the contract, the merciless binding agreement that always seems like a win-win at the start, and despite a gigantic literary tradition of depicting the ruinous nature of such contracts they're the very glue of "Western Civilization" and a pillar of the right-wing personality. The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled etc.

@mxchara@seattle.pink @ericjames@booping.synth.download which is why i think it's funny how cartoony the term "sell your soul to the devil" is cause it sounds like it's just a random transaction, when it really means a full commitment of being "the devil"'s puppet in need of financial gain or status that's why mostly every celebrity out there has "sold their soul", it's a literal contract
