First as tragedy, then as farce. No major party is going to stand against Farage in his byelection. Count Binface may genuinely be his primary opponent. I'd like to see him unseated and would've backed a fight against him, but this will make it seem all the more absurd with only small, fringe parties and joke candidates standing against him. Though another byelection seems likely in short order when the standards committee rules on him. #UKPolitics #UKPol #Farage https://www.theguardian.com/politics/live/2026/jul/07/nigel-farage-reform-uk-donations-investigations-parliament-electoral-commission-defence-nato-keir-starmer-latest-news-updates?CMP=share_btn_url&page=with%3Ablock-6a4d364c8f0821c5ffb5b230#block-6a4d364c8f0821c5ffb5b230

It's only in circumstances like this that a fringe candidate is ever likely to win btw, so I think an earnest attempt to get Binface or whoever polls best against Farage elected would be worthwhile. Reform is nothing absent Farage and this may well be his end. It'll be good that the national emergency ends if it turns out Farage has broken the law, but it'll sting a bit that Burnham is to benefit from it rather than Starmer. #UKPolitics #UKPol #Farage
