The three Russias (Rus'), of which Ukraine is the oldest, are in the oriental part of Europe, greek, orthodox etc.. Poland, and Czechia, are in the occidental part of Europe, roman, catholic etc.. So at the end of the 20th century, Poland had geopolitically more the choice to join EU and NATO than Ukraine. And don't forget than the eastern part of Poland, formerly occupied by Russia, is much more populist and quasi Russian than the west, occupied by Prussia/Germany and Austria, Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones at others.
