@davidculley@hachyderm.io Yes, I wholeheartedly agree. However, I also know a lot of people who say they hold values and ideological commitments (that set them apart from the scenario you describe) but do not feel free to act in accordance with them. And some think they are never free enough to do so. But I have recently come across various people who have crossed a personal threshold - like having a PhD and now using an academic position to advance their values instead of an academic career.
