I have some vague recollection of an anecdote from the 20th century where some American dude told a French one the « If it weren’t for us you’d be speaking German » cliché, to which the French answered « Well, if it weren’t for us you’d be speaking English ». I can’t remember who was involved. A quick search only brings up the orange moron paraphrasing the former sentence one year ago. He really ruins everything doesn’t he
