Yesterday I learned my brother-in-law just up and quit his software development job because he was totally burned out, and now he’s just screwing around developing what he wants on his own terms. He could afford to do this because he lives alone with his cats and never does anything, so he has FIVE YEARS of money saved up.

@gregly@retro.pizza I've got about 3 years saved up, I could stretch to 5 if I reduced spending, but I'm too chicken to do this and I would probably procrastinate and do nothing. Not sure what I would do when the money ran out and I had a 5 year gap in my work history. I guess the smart plan would be to build a small business with the free time.
