IANAL, but I’m not so sure they are wrong. Although I’m also not quite sure the standards needed to request documents. Do the things they are asking for have incriminating evidence against Trump? Maybe. But I don’t think you get to ask for things in hopes of finding something to help you. Pretty sure you have to have expectation of finding it. e.g. An employee telling you an internal memo exists, or that people regularly talk about an activity in internal emails. You could then request the memo and emails. Otherwise anyone could make up a claim and request private info. Do they have reason to believe such details were discussed via phone, written in his diary, etc? Trump is a piece of shit that absolutely is the cause of Jan 6th. IMO, a direct cause. But even if not that, certainly indirectly caused it. You can’t spout misinformation about the election as a president and expect that to not motivate anyone. In Futurama, Earth voting a super villain to be president of Earth was supposed to be a joke. Not as much of a joke now. Lots of people voted for Trump for a similar reason as Professor Farnsworth voted for the villain.
