i feel like this is really really bad for nixos and several gnu projects especially. because they often render their manual and reference pages as one giant html page and the search engine just doesn't index those even though those pages have all the docs you need.

@astrid@woem.space yes, indeed. we first noticed this problem in the 90s when w3schools would come up first instead of the w3c's site it has gotten worse since then :(
