I just finished reading Long Island Girls by Gabrielle Korn, which I started late last night. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/240019834-long-island-girls Overall, I think it's very well written, and tugs the heart strings. I'm glad I read it. The author does a beautiful job capturing the culture of the aughts. She touches on queer life, the birth of online harrassment, homophobia, the MeToo movement, and the rise of fascism while still painting an optimistic view of the future. I can't say I feel good about the ending. If anything, it just reminds me how much I've lost in the last 20 years. Friendships, family, careers, my physical and mental health. I'm only about a year and a half older than Susan, the main character. What must it feel like to be excited about the future? I think the last time I felt that was 1999, right around when the clinical depression kicked into high gear.
