@ramsey@phpc.social @elazar@phpc.social Research has already demonstrated that usage of AI leads to "deskilling" of people. After about three months they don't catch mistakes the AI makes anymore....
If AI usage in software can only safely be allowed in combination with strict code review, then deskilling the people who need to review is not the way to go.
But hey, what do I know ?

@jrf_nl@phpc.social Such deskilling is admittedly one of the technical/social drawbacks to which I was referring. It does take strong intention and discipline to use AI as a tool rather than a crutch, and that aspect of using it almost certainly has a more substantial negative impact on engineers with less practical pre-AI experience to lean on. As with many things, there's no silver bullet solution; it's all about trade-offs. @ramsey@phpc.social
