However, in my personal experience it's not raised temperture that's degrading my DSL connection, but rain. I suspect the copper running from the house I live in to the closest DSLAM is over 60 years old and the isolation already brittle and cracked up in places, so that it sucks water, so stronger losses and other fun degraded transmission line effects.

Lost dial tone as well, due to the moisture causing high leakage between tip and ring. The phone company tried me on every available pair. I was lucky that they installed GPON. Moisture doesn't get into the fiber to cause problems.
