I was at the 1976 Bicentenniel celebrations. It was a joyous time. The brand new EPA was cleaning up the air and water. Richard Nixon was gone. The Vietnam War was gone. Black people and women had equal rights under the law, though there were still issues with equality but they were being addressed by the courts. We were expecting the best for everyone.
None of that is true for the 250th anniversary celebrations. Doom and gloom are the order of the day. Literally in Washington DC lol.
