@slava@mathstodon.xyz Like almost all projects also have de facto policy bans on doing Jia Tan or Dual_EC_DRBG playbooks on them. They're not foolproof! And they're not costless, socially! It uses a chunk of coordination and effort to enforce them, like any social norms -- they're not free. But they make those actions more risky and expensive, and arguably block e.g. Crypto AG playbooks from being run.
