Idle thought of the morning (not super original - sometimes I write just to get the thought out of my head): when email spam first started being a problem, all the initial filtering technologies were built into local mail reading clients. People could customize what filtering they wanted. For most modern social media channels, this is impossible, and users are forced to reject the app entirely, or accept "the algorithm". It's a good reason to be on Mastodon/fedi
