Photinus pyralis, The Common Eastern #Firefly or locally known here as a “lightning bug”. These #bugs will start flashing around twilight in spring and #summer months in the eastern US. They certainly put on a show. Males will fly in a J-pattern while lighting their abdomens with light-activated proteins to attract females. Females who rest on bushes and trees nearby will flash back at them if interested in mating.
