If I were a science organization doing groundbreaking research in a movie, I would simply not call myself something self-defeating like "Prometheus"

@pjb@sharkey.slugcat.systems You say that, but most scientists don't actually *own* the organizations they do research for and there's a bunch of silicon valley fuckwits who call their company that makes surveillance tech "Palantir".

@pjb@sharkey.slugcat.systems Most actual scientists also probably wouldn't take off their helmet off on an alien planet that is known to contain unknown extraterrestrial lifeforms just because "the air is breathable".
