If I look at Matrix rooms, its used more as a forum where its just huge swaths of text, which wouldve been a better fit in, well, an actual forum, or maybe a mailing list. To take the definition of "chat", according to WM:Verb: to talk in an informal or familiar manner Noun: idle small talk light informal or familiar talkThese definitions do not align with large swaths of text, so they are literally not "chat". They can be discussions, formal or informal, but thats different, and we already have something for this, discussion forums. IRC however is actually for chat, its right there in the name, Internet Relay Chat. People spamming or otherwise disrupting a channel with a large amount of text all at once is not, by definition, chat.
