1st, it's totally possible to travel by train further than you would first think. 2nd, night trains rule. Treat yourself to a comfortable option, it's probably cheaper than a hotel night + a train ticket. 3rd, more academics should consider the possibility. The most common reaction I get is surprise, from people who did not even consider the possibility. Inside Europe there are often more train options than you might think.
