@tyil@fedi.tyil.nl @menherahair@eientei.org @Zergling_man@sacred.harpy.faith @Pi_rat@freesoftwareextremist.com "1 line of text" is a client issue, especially with ircv3. the protocol is fine. one thing that IS missing is some standard way to work over flaky connections, tcp isn't that great for this. constantly reconnecting is annoying.

@bonifartius@noauthority.social @menherahair@eientei.org @Zergling_man@sacred.harpy.faith @Pi_rat@freesoftwareextremist.com I never really get why the 1 line of text is considered a "breaking" feature. Multiple lines sent still become multiple lines on the receiving end. It really feels like dreaming up issues as an excuse to use worse chat platforms.flaky connectionsYeah, this is kind of an issue, the de-facto solution is to use a bouncer on a more stable connection. Its not great from a usability perspective, but since most IRC users are techies, it doesn't appear to be a huge issue in practice. It would be nice to see a better solution than "rent a server and use that".
