Veganism is not a boycott - a boycott aims to change the behaviour of a company or industry; veganism wants to end an industry.
Boycotts have a conditional end; veganism is a baseline principle that non-humans don't deserve imprisonment torture and death.
Boycotts are reform that target extrinsic harms, veganism targets abolition of intrinsic harms.
So saying "Veganism won't achieve abolition because boycotts have limited success" is a category error.

@ambiguous_yelp@veganism.social in the original meaning, a boycot is about getting rid of, not about asking for change of behaviour. the irish wanted to expel asshole landlord #CharlesBoycott. this included using threats of violence. in that meaning, i think it's fine to call veganism a boycot, like it's fine to use the words "luddithe" or "anarchy" even if they have misleading alternative contemporary definitions.
