@undead@masto.hackers.town they (among other reactionary fringe groups) tend to attract rich and powerful benefactors, so the bishops have been more than willing to turn a blind eye as long as they toe the line. That’s why they went all in on pro-Covid with Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn v. Cuomo in 2020 I think the current US administration has forced the US bishops to run the numbers, and they found that rich and powerful benefactors only donate to the fringe, and the collection plate actually gets filled by immigrant families working six jobs and liberal suburban wine moms who only show up for ashes, palms, baptisms, and bingo. Whoops
