@rsalz@ioc.exchange @letoams@defcon.social "There is no formal membership in the IETF. Participation is open to all. This participation may be by on-line contribution, attendance at face-to-face sessions, or both. Anyone from the Internet community who has the time and interest is urged to participate in IETF meetings and any of its on-line working group discussions."
That's from IETF's official working-group procedures, RFC 2418.

@djb@mastodon.cr.yp.to @letoams@defcon.social Giving people template text and encouraging them to take a stand where they have never participated before is not participation. I've noticed that this kind of blind literalism is often seen in untrained people playing lawyer, or perhaps US Supreme Court justices. Also not uncommon with people "on the spectrum." I do not think you are stupid, nor are you a Justice and I am not qualified to diagnose. Therefore, I still believe you are therefore just acting in bad faith to get what you want, no matter how justified you think the end result is.
