@david@social.piconet.work From what I have seen, the open video platforms are getting to be pretty okay, but the volunteer server hardware behind them tends to be pretty underpowered for the demand. I perceive a few chicken-and-egg style challenges. Anyone standing up one today has to face the likelihood that their infrastructure may get crushed by the current unmet demand, and be unable to meet their own needs. So they also need to think more about scaling and security. Once federation catches on and more providers join, the crushing backlog of demand won't be so daunting for additional providers to join the network.
