you might remember that a few days ago i posted about the world war iii lightning show we got in edmonton, with 10-20 strikes per minute at one point. apparently, that was absolutely nothing. look at the insanity just west of Fort Simpson, NWT (canada's north, in the deh cho region). each of those points is a single lightning strike over a 24h period today. ๐ฌ you can see where the entire storm tracked from the lightning strikes alone. it's heavily forested boreal throughout that region, with very old growth, extremely dry, and tons of fallen timber just ready for an ignition. every one of those strikes has the potential to ignite a new wildfire. source @cabinradio@mstdn.ca: https://cabinradio.ca/298833/news/environment/wildfires/danger-still-high-evacuees-should-prep-for-long-haul-village-says/ #wildfires #nwt #canada #wx
