Tanabata (七夕), also known as 'Hoshi-matsuri' (星祭り the 'Star Festival'), celebrates the reunion of Orihime and Hikoboshi on the 7th day of the 7th month.

Imported from the mainland by the imperial court, Tanabata (七夕) evolved from one of the 'go-sekku' (五節句), five events held on auspicious days throughout the year. at Tanabata the hearts can't meet- rain in heaven 七夕の逢はぬ心や雨中天 -Matsuo Bashō (松尾芭蕉). Trans. Gabi Greve.
