Update. Here's a great example of reusing older #data, this time for the original purpose. Scientists retrieved unpublished data from the 1977 "Wow!" signal captured by the #Arecibo radio telescope as part of the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (#SETI), reanalyzed it with modern tools, and improved our understanding of where it came from and what might have caused it. * primary source https://arxiv.org/abs/2508.10657 * summary https://phys.org/news/2025-08-wow-stronger-thought.html #Reuse

Update. Here's another good example of reusing old data for a new purpose. Scientists digitized old microfilm data from the 1978 Pioneer probe to Venus, and used it to show that Venusian clouds are about 60% water. * primary source https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/2024JE008582 * summary https://www.universetoday.com/articles/venus-clouds-are-60-water-according-to-reanalyzed-pioneer-data #Astronomy #OpenData #OpenScience
