@siracusa@mastodon.social listening to the bootleg, my take on the Valve steam machine not being subsidized much the same as yours. The only interpretation that makes sense to me is the ecosystem they mean is competing hardware. I.e. if they subsidize the steam deck, then you wouldn’t see the many other handhelds on the market since they would not be as price competitive if Valve was losing 20% on every unit.
