there are some advertising agencies with "active listening" features, whose existence has been strongly denied until they came to light (see eg https://archive.ph/hLEYY or https://www.404media.co/cmg-cox-media-actually-listening-to-phones-smartspeakers-for-ads-marketing/ ), but there's no known evidence of whatsapp actually analyzing people's chats, while it wouldn't be that difficult to discover (by just RE'ing the app, instead of looking at ad payloads in the case of CMG & active listening)

@pcy@icosahedron.website Interesting.. thanks. They wouldn't even have to do *much* analysis for it to be useful. Given the scale at which they operate, even "brand X was mentioned 10% more today in chats in small geographic region Y" would be incredibly valuable information to the right (or wrong.. I guess) people.
