I've been gnawing on an idea this weekend that, like a piece of gristle in my steak, stubbornly refuses to resolve into anything distinct and palatable. But this being the internet I'm not about to let that stop me. Please return your seats and tray tables to the upright and locked position, I'm about to brain dump.

I'm not sure if we've forgotten this, or never really knew it, but we've believed a cultural lie that joy must be earned, that every injustice must first be righted, and every broken thing mended, and every messy thing cleaned up, before we can allow ourselves to partake in joy. It's baloney. Joy can coexist with grief, rage, and even depression. It doesn't require anything of me except my attention. But that's the problem, my attention is usually divided a thousand ways. 2/
