This assassination attempt on a pro-Russia Ukrainian oligarch smells like a false flag operation.
At first look, the facts imply that the Ukrainian GRU tried to kill him. A bomb placed in an apartment lobby, probably remotely detonated rather than timed, resembles some past GRU hits on Russian assets.

But the details are weird. The target was a Crimean booze magnate, sanctioned by Ukraine but not part of the war effort. Ukraine normally targets military figures. The bomb was a can of bolts and nails. The Ukrainians use real bombs, not IEDs. And the attack was in Monaco, where Europe's rich elite normally feel safe. My bet?
