Literally every word to imply someone isn't smart (idiot, stupid, dumb, etc) was once the "*clinical*" term until it naturally evolved into an insult specifically targeted against people, not for a genuine cognitive impairment, but people doing genuinely fucking stupid things. The word "retarded" used as an insult shouldn't be treated any differently as side from the emphasis it holds in co.parison to the others.
