Literally translated "Lüften" means "airing", a more idiomatic translation would be "airing out". There's also the word "auslüften" which literally translates to "airing out", but it more implies airing out clothes or furniture, and not rooms. Ventilation (as in HVAC) is "Belüftung" (be-air-ing) for adding air or "Entlüftung (de-air-ing) for removing air.
