i really don’t like “if buying isn’t owning then pirating isn’t stealing” first of all there is absolutely zero logic in this sentence. just because someone mistreats you and lies to you doesn’t mean that stealing from them is suddenly not stealing. there is literally no logical connection. stealing physical things from a corporation is still stealing even if the corporation exploits its workers and customers. pirating is indeed not stealing but that is because it fundamentally just isn’t, piracy isn’t theft, when you pirate you “steal” only “potential sales” that aren’t real and wouldn’t exist anyway, actual theft is taking away real value. whatever atrocities the corporation you pirate from commits has zero bearing on whether the act of piracy is theft or not. second of all, it reads to me as “i’m not stealing things from a corporation!! i am a good person, not like those thieves!!” — genuinely fuck you if you think like this, you’re the kind of person who’d see a poor person stealing from a grocery store and snitch on them. digital piracy literally would be infinitely cooler if it was theft, imagine being able to just take 10 or 100 dollars from a corporation with the click of a button. last of all it sounds goofy as hell. i will not give a rationale for this but it’s (in my opinion) objectively true
