Keishō-in is often depicted with a dog called Takemaru. Her son, born in the year of the dog, was obsessed with canines (owning 100+) and in 1687 established a law to prohibit the taking of life (especially concerned with the treatment of dogs). He became known as the 'Dog Shōgun'.

  • 🫘NATTŌ NOM😶 Matsuya-Tōbee is best known for another sweet, 'Murasakino Matsukaze' (紫野松風). Matsukaze is made from flour, sugar and white miso. The batter is left to ferment for 1 day before baking. More moist and chewier than a sponge cake, it has a sweet and sour flavour.
