The goal of neoliberalism is to convince most people that they simply must defer to the market. As an individual, it obviously makes sense when living in a capitalistic society; it's just practical and pragmatic. But doing so at a national government level is just insane. We are in control, we decide. That's why the rich are terrified of democratic socialism. That's what happens when we understand our actual power.
