IRCC leadership has been very tight lipped about exactly *WHAT* happened, beyond Minister Diab ordering the surrenders “the second” that she found out. She declined to say what she found out.
It didn’t make it to the article, but I don’t fault the IRCC staff. Their leadership didn’t put much effort into updating genealogy standards before the law changed in December. There has been some belated updates issued after the surrender letters started. For those who work there and care about the integrity of the immigration process, I suspect it’s quite frustrating.

@tmaher@infosec.exchange if it does turn out to be AI its going to be *very* difficult for them to talk about it as the Prime Minister is pushing AI at every opportunity.
