@royaards@newsie.social Over the last week, there have been debates on X about why Europeans haven’t installed air conditioning (AC) in their homes. Americans, in particular, have been mocking this with derisive comments. Of course, we increasingly need AC, esp. in public buildings, hospitals etc. But to present this as a sufficient response to the heatwaves is strange. AC cannot save crops, animals, rivers & lakes, forests, transport & energy infrastructure. That requires far more action on #ClimateChange.

@royaards@newsie.social I think we should just reserve places in order to get a natural AC. It's really cool and greater than this artificial one. We should plant trees and keep the #environment clean and secure

Im übrigen glaube ich dass wir ohne die Verbreitung von Klimaanlagen weit weniger #Klimawandel hätten. Die reichen Leute im Westen nehmen das Problem einfach nicht so krass wahr. Sie sind es ja nicht die in unklimatisierten Dachgeschosswohnungen schlafen oder bei 40+ºC auf dem Feld arbeiten. Das sind immer die anderen! Und im Süden war's doch schon immer warm?! Dass dort Leute bald bei 50ºC einfach sterben, ist denen bestenfalls als factoid bekannt, aber das ist nicht intuitiv erfasst. Heißer Sommer? Assoziiert mit Fahrt im klimatisierten SUV zum Freibad und mit lauen Abenden mit Sangria auf einer Terasse mit Blick über die Stadt! Nie mit Tod und Ernteausfall! So… und jetzt geh ich mir eine Klimaanlage kaufen.
